For 11 years Andrew Ewenson has been a tower of strength for the Upper Beaconsfield Scout Group, and the Recreation Reserve Committee, as well as supporting community events such as the Carols in the Park and the Village Festival.
He grew into these roles by volunteering where needed – he joined the scout parent group in 2015 when his daughter joined Cubs. From there he took on more responsibility and training to become a trainee leader.
As time went on he graduated to assistant group leader, then group leader, and updated his training to enable him to attend a jamboree interstate. He also established the Joey group. He is still the group leader.
While all this was going on he joined the Recreation Reserve committee in 2016 first a parent rep, then as the scout group delegate. He became vice president for years, then after the death of long time president Bob Taylor in 2025, he took
over as president of the reserve committee.
He has been a great asset to the reserve as his fencing business enabled him to make many improvements and he volunteered many hours of his time at weekends.
He improved access tracks around the reserve. Each year he has helped clear
up the weed trees to improve the reserve.
For many years Andrew worked hard with Bob Taylor and the reserve committee and other reserve user groups, to lobby all levels of government and advocate for a new pavilion to replace the old igloo.
